Constructing Knowledge Networks
Course Description This seminar aims at discussing recent developments in knowledge-management-tools. We will focus on two areas - namely visualization and knowledge sharing. Some of the following questions will be addressed:
- How can knowledge be structured and presented in a cognitively adequate way? - What are the pros & cons of Concept-Maps, Mind-Maps etc. and their software-implementations?
- Do network-like visualizations support human knowledge processing?
- Which aspects of social interaction are relevant for computer-based collaboration?
- What are the pros & cons of distributed vs. centralized approaches to knowledge maintenance?
This seminar can be seen as continuation of the MAPA-Master-Project. So there are also opportunities for practical/implementation works. However it requires no previous knowledge of the project.
This class was mostly presentations by the (small number of) students. Unfortunately, due to time and last of knowledge of the codebase, there was no time to work on the MAPA project. My contribution was a presentation with Bill Wicker on a comparison of existing knowledge management tools.
