My work at Excellus was my first official co-op at RIT. I worked with Greg Bender to develop a web interface to a meta-data database using the agile software development method Extreme Programming. We implemented an ERWin database schematic in Oracle and utilized Java Servlets and Struts to provide an MVC architecture. All unit testing was done using JUnit and an automated build process was created using Ant.

This was an interesting project because the two of us worked the entire quarter on-campus in a lab in the RIT Lab for Applied Computing (It’s now Center for Advancing the Study of CyberInfrastructure) while the rest of the team (DBAs and project leaders) were either in downtown Rochester or Syracuse. This led to some lagtime in getting the necessary information, but was a useful experience in a seemingly real world situation.
