Jerry Guzi & Co.
I did work for Jerry Guzi & Co. the Summer after I graduated from High School (2000) and the Summer after my first year at RIT (2001).
The first Summer, I worked as an on-site computer/network technician. Jerry Guzi & Co. was essentially the outsourced IT department for a number of local businesses and I was a key part of that.
The following year, I changed roles completely and worked on the company website the entire Summer. The site was originally created in MS Frontpage and was therefore quite bloated and took a while to download for what it was. This was still the age of mostly modems, so this was a concern.
My initial work was in reducing the size of the HTML and graphics on the webpage. This was done using a text editor and reduced the download footprint of the site by 50%.
The next task of that Summer was to develop a web application to help a user decide what type of form (think pre-printed checks) they wanted and let them order it online. This was done in ASP and then rewritten to PHP when our hosting needs changed.
My final task was to get the site listed in search engines and boost traffic. This was by far not my specialty, but some positive results were obtained using WebPosition Gold.
